Bank Holiday Activity Generator
Suggests a bank-holiday activity — a nearby day trip, a garden get-together, that home project you've been putting off — for making the most of the extra day.
What this generator does
Draws a long-weekend idea, spanning the day trip and the postponed home project. Both belong in the same list on purpose: a bank holiday is the one block of time long enough for either, and the recurring regret about them is the weekend that went by without a decision being made at all.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 29 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- Take a day trip somewhere within an hour's travel
- Visit a local market or car boot sale
- Go somewhere everyone else isn't, deliberately
- Take the walk that is too long for a normal Sunday
- Watch a film in the afternoon with the curtains shut
- Play a sport you have not played in years
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 29, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated, evergreen long-weekend activity list. Last reviewed 2026-09-03.

- Generate again for a different idea.
Common use cases
- Planning a bank-holiday weekend
- Long-weekend day-trip ideas
- Making the most of an extra day off
Limitations and good to know
- Bank holiday dates differ across the UK nations and again outside the UK, and nothing here is tied to a calendar.
- Many attractions are busiest on exactly these days and some trades and suppliers are closed, so a suggestion may be impractical on the day it is drawn.
Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
