Character Drawing Prompt Generator
Suggests a character-design brief — a role, a mood, a defining detail — for character-art practice, distinct from a general drawing subject. Ten briefs in rotation, none specifying age, build or appearance.
What this generator does
Supplies a character to draw, which is a narrower brief than the general drawing prompt — it commits you to a figure rather than a scene.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 10 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- A retired adventurer who now runs a quiet shop
- Someone dressed for a job that doesn't exist yet
- A traveller carrying everything they own
- A character whose clothing tells you their whole personality
- Two characters who are clearly close friends, without them touching
- A character caught in weather they did not dress for
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 10, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated character-design brief list. Last reviewed 2026-07-25.

How this generator works
Picks one of ten character briefs — a retired adventurer who now runs a quiet shop, someone dressed for a job that doesn't exist yet — each naming a role, mood or one defining detail rather than a physical description. A seed word brings the same brief back later while the generator is unchanged, for returning to a character worth finishing properly instead of starting over with a fresh one from the same ten. The seeded draw is deterministic, not cryptographic.
Limitations and good to know
- Ten briefs means a busy sketchbook habit will see one repeat within a couple of weeks.
- None of the ten specifies age, build or any physical trait on purpose, so two people drawing the same brief will draw two different characters — that is by design, not a gap to fix.
Practical tips
- Sketch the pose before any detail; a beautifully rendered face on a badly constructed body is the commonest beginner trap.
- Give the character one specific object to hold — it forces a decision about who they are.
Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
