How this generator works
Hands back one of ten medium-neutral constraints — a colour limit, a time limit, an instruction not to lift the pen or brush until the piece is finished — chosen to apply to drawing, painting, craft or any other medium without modification. A seed word repeats the same constraint, which is what a workshop needs when everybody in the room is meant to work under one rule rather than under as many rules as there are people. The seeded sequence is deterministic, not cryptographic.
Limitations and good to know
- Constraints are not levelled by difficulty; 'use only three colours for the whole piece' and 'don't lift your pen or brush until it's finished' can land back to back, and most people find one considerably harder than the other.
- Because the list is medium-neutral, a few constraints suit some media poorly — 'use your non-dominant hand' has little effect on digital work built with a stabiliser tool.
Practical tips
- Keep the constraint when it becomes inconvenient — that moment is the exercise.
- Apply it to a piece you have already made, so you can compare directly against the unconstrained version.
