Curse Generator
Generates a random magical curse concept — a specific, flavourful downside for a tabletop RPG or fiction plot device.
What this generator does
Draws a curse concept. The useful ones are curses a character can live with — an inconvenience that shapes behaviour session after session — rather than ones that simply reduce a number, because a curse the party removes at the next temple was never really part of the story.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 10 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- Every lie the cursed speaks becomes true, however inconvenient
- The cursed cannot be recognised by anyone who has met them before
- The cursed's shadow moves independently, half a second out of sync
- The cursed hears every whispered conversation nearby, whether they want to or not
- Mirrors show the cursed as they were exactly one year ago
- Every promise the cursed breaks costs them a memory
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 10, without repeating until the list runs out. Original authoring for Generate Random.. Last reviewed 2026-07-19.
How to use this tool
- Press generate for a curse.
Common use cases
- Tabletop RPG plot devices
- Fiction-writing magic-system ideas
- Quick session-filler content
Practical tips
- Decide the condition for lifting it when you introduce it, even if nobody is told. A curse with no exit becomes a permanent penalty the player resents rather than a plot.
Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
