Fantasy Book Generator

Generates a random in-world fantasy book or tome title — explicitly fictional worldbuilding flavour, distinct from the real-world book-title generator used for actual writing projects.

What this generator does

Produces an in-world book title. Titles of imaginary books are unusually efficient worldbuilding: a tome title implies a subject somebody thought worth a book, a tradition of scholarship, and often an author with an agenda — all in five words on a shelf the party is searching.

What it builds, and how many ways

Each result is assembled to this shape: [adjective] + [noun] + [topic].

  • adjective: 6 options
  • noun: 6 options
  • topic: 6 options

Taken together those banks can be assembled 216 different ways, repeating after about 18.

Some results it can produce:

  • The Forgotten Codex of the Deep Roads
  • The Second Treatise of Forgotten Kings
  • The Unwritten Ledger of Tides
  • The Silent Codex of the Long Winter

A fixed sample so this page stays the same between visits. Your own results are assembled at random, each slot filled independently and each press independent of the last, so the same result can come up twice — past the repeat figure above, seeing one twice is more likely than not.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a book title.
  2. Generate again for another one.

Common use cases

  • Worldbuilding a library or archive
  • Fantasy campaign flavour text
  • Puzzle/lore design

Practical tips

  • Put three on a shelf and let the party choose one to read. What they pick tells you what they are actually interested in, which is worth more than the contents.

Each part of the result is chosen independently with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every option in a bank is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
