House Name Generator

Generates a random name idea for a house, cottage or cabin — the kind of name people put on a plaque by the front door.

What this generator does

Suggests a name for a house, cottage or cabin — for the cases where a street number does not exist or does not fit. The suggestions lean on the conventions British house names actually follow: a landscape feature, a tree, an old use for the building, or a compound of two of those.

What it builds, and how many ways

Each result is assembled to this shape: [adjective] + [noun].

  • adjective: 22 options
  • noun: 22 options

Taken together those banks can be assembled 484 different ways, repeating after about 28.

Some results it can produce:

  • Willow End
  • Orchard Gate
  • Elder House
  • Sorrel Rise

A fixed sample so this page stays the same between visits. Your own results are assembled at random, each slot filled independently and each press independent of the last, so the same result can come up twice — past the repeat figure above, seeing one twice is more likely than not.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a house name.
  2. Generate again for another option.

Common use cases

  • Naming a new home or holiday cottage
  • Fiction/game settings
  • Just for fun

Limitations and good to know

  • In the UK, naming or renaming a property normally has to go through the local council so the name reaches the postal address file. A name nobody official knows about does not reach your post.
  • Duplicate house names within a village or postcode are usually refused, and are a genuine nuisance for deliveries even when allowed.

Each part of the result is chosen independently with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every option in a bank is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
