Interview Question Generator

Generates a common interview question for practising and preparing your own answers ahead of a real interview. Not a hiring or evaluation tool.

What this generator does

Supplies a question to ask a candidate, for a panel that wants consistency across interviews. It provides the question, not the assessment framework — and the framework is what makes an interview fair.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 14 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • Tell me about a time you solved a difficult problem.
  • Describe a time you disagreed with a colleague and how you handled it.
  • How do you prioritise when you have several competing deadlines?
  • Describe a time you had to learn something new very quickly.
  • Tell me about a time you had to give someone difficult feedback.
  • Describe a time you improved a process at work.

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 14, without repeating until the list runs out. Original authoring for Generate Random.. Last reviewed 2026-07-19.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a practice interview question.

Common use cases

  • Preparing for a job interview
  • Mock-interview practice
  • Building confidence answering common questions

Limitations and good to know

  • A question bank is not a hiring process. Structured scoring, agreed criteria and more than one interviewer do far more for fairness than the questions themselves.
  • Nothing here is checked against employment law in any jurisdiction. Questions touching age, health, family or nationality can be unlawful and are your responsibility to screen.

Practical tips

  • Ask the same questions of every candidate for a role; varying them is where inconsistency and bias enter.
  • Decide what a good answer looks like before the interview rather than after, or you will recognise it only in hindsight.

Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.

A practice-preparation tool only — never used to score, rank or evaluate any real candidate.
