What this generator does

Builds sentences from a chosen vocabulary until it has exactly the number of words, sentences or paragraphs you asked for, capitalising and closing each sentence properly. Nine vocabularies are offered, because Latin is the wrong register for some of the things placeholder text goes into: a page of lorem ipsum on a mock book cover or a mock menu reads as unfinished in a way that has nothing to do with meaning.

How to use this tool

1. Choose whether you want words, sentences or paragraphs, and how many.
2. Generate, and copy the text.
3. Change the flavour if Latin is the wrong register for what you are mocking up.
4. Turn the classic opening off if you would rather it did not start the usual way.
5. Give a seed if you want the same text again.

Understanding the controls

Flavour

Which vocabulary the text is drawn from. Classic Latin is the standard passage; the other eight are invented word banks chosen for register rather than meaning — corporate, technical, gothic, archaic, scientific, calm, reportage and artisanal. None of them is a real language or a term of art, and none is a brand.

Give me

Words, sentences or paragraphs. Asking by word gives an exact count; asking by sentence or paragraph lets the lengths vary naturally.

How many

One to five hundred of whichever unit you chose. Larger counts take no longer to produce.

Classic opening

Whether to start with lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, which is what most people expect placeholder text to look like. It applies to the Latin flavour only, and the control is withdrawn on the others rather than quietly doing nothing: no other register has a first line a reader would recognise, and inventing one would be a claim about a tradition that does not exist.

Seed

A word reproduces exactly the same text, which is useful for a mock-up that has to be regenerated.

How this generator works

The words, sentences and paragraphs are counted back off the finished text rather than tallied while writing it. Every sentence is confirmed to begin with a capital and the text to end with a full stop, and every word is checked against the bank the flavour you chose draws on — not against Latin, which would report every word of the other eight registers as a stray and turn the audit into noise.

Randomness and fairness

Which words appear comes from the browser's secure generator. A seed reproduces the same text exactly — that path is deterministic, not cryptographic, and exists so a mock-up can be rebuilt.

Limitations and good to know

• The eight non-Latin flavours are invented word banks written for texture. They are ordinary English words, not terms of art, and the sentences they build mean nothing — which is the point of placeholder text.
• No real language other than Latin. Placeholder text in Japanese, Arabic or anything else needs a source rather than plausible-looking invention, and there is no such source here.
• Sentences run from six to fourteen words and paragraphs from three to six sentences, which is ordinary but not adjustable.
• No headings, lists or other structure — this is running text.
• Asking by word can end a sentence early, since the count is honoured exactly.
• Nothing Lorem Ipsum Generator produces is kept once the page closes — the seed is the only way back to the same output.
