Microadventure Generator
Suggests a small, achievable adventure close to home — a sunrise watched somewhere new, a meal eaten entirely outdoors — distinct from the site's bigger day-trip and bucket-list generators.
What this generator does
Draws a small adventure that fits between finishing work and starting again — the idea, popularised by Alastair Humphreys, that an adventure is defined by being unfamiliar rather than by being far away or expensive. Most draws can be done within a few miles of home.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 8 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- Watch the sunrise from somewhere you've never watched it before.
- Explore a part of your own neighbourhood you've never actually walked through.
- Have a meal entirely outdoors, wherever you can manage it.
- Spend an hour somewhere with no set plan, just to see what happens.
- Sleep somewhere unusual for one night — a garden, a different room, a tent.
- Cook and eat a meal you've never made before, outdoors if possible.
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 8, without repeating until the list runs out. Original authoring for Generate Random — general small-scale local-adventure prompts, no location data.. Last reviewed 2026-07-18.

Randomness and fairness
Uniform across the list with the browser's cryptographic random number generator. Nothing accounts for the season, the weather or where you live.
For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.
Several of these involve being outdoors after dark, in cold water or away from other people. Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back, check the forecast, and treat any draw as a suggestion to assess against real conditions rather than a plan to follow.
