Pantheon Generator

This site already has a deity generator, and it fills a template: a name, a title, a domain. Running it eight times gives you eight gods and no pantheon, and the difference is everything you actually wanted it for. A pantheon is a set with constraints, and the constraints are what a table can be run from. Two gods of the sea is a good story and a useless reference sheet — asked who to pray to before a voyage, it has no answer. A sheet that says the Dawn hates the Shadow and does not say it the other way round tells a reader something different depending which name they look up. And a pantheon in which everybody is benevolent has nothing in it to fear, which is not a pantheon.

What this generator does

Deals the domains from a shuffled list so nobody can share one, gives every god after the eldest a single parent from among those older than it so the family is a tree by construction, marries and sets at odds without letting anyone marry an ancestor, and joins anybody left unrelated to the rest so the result is one pantheon rather than several. Then it reads all of that back off the finished set.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose how many gods, and how many domains each of them holds.
  2. Raise the pantheon, and read each god with their domains, their temper and everyone they are related to.
  3. Look at the unclaimed domains, which say what nobody in your world can pray about.
  4. Print the reference sheet, or copy the link so a whole table has the same gods.

Understanding the controls

How many gods
Three to twelve. How many will actually fit depends on the next control, and the page says the number before you press anything.
Domains each
One, two or three. Three gives broad powers and fewer gods, because the domains are dealt and not drawn — which is what stops two gods holding the sea.
Repeat word
The word this pantheon was raised from. Everyone opening the same link gets the same gods, which is the point at a table.

Common use cases

  • A religion for a campaign setting that stays consistent across sessions
  • A reference sheet a table can look a god up in mid-scene
  • A starting pantheon for a novel, where the family and the rivalries have to hold together
  • Teaching what makes a pantheon a system rather than a cast list
  • Giving every player at a table the same gods from one link

How this generator works

The check walks the finished pantheon rather than the loop that dealt it: every domain for a second holder, every god for being their own ancestor, every marriage for being to an ancestor, every rivalry and marriage for saying so under both names, the whole set for being connected, and the tempers for being uniformly kind. The connectivity test is the one that caught a real fault — an earlier version gave every unrelated god a rivalry with somebody, which is not the same thing, because two lonely gods given each other are a second pantheon.

Randomness and fairness

The pantheon is raised from a repeat word drawn from your browser’s secure generator unless you type one of your own, so a link brings back the same gods. That makes the sequence behind it deterministic and not cryptographic.

For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.

Limitations and good to know

  • The gods are invented. They correspond to no religion anyone holds, and nothing here is a description of any real faith.
  • Domains come from a fixed list, so two pantheons of twelve will draw on the same set of powers even though no god shares one within a pantheon.
  • The family is a tree with one parent each, which is tidier than any real mythology and is the price of the sheet never contradicting itself.
  • There are no myths, no rites and no clergy — this is the frame those hang on, not the stories themselves.

Privacy and your data

The pantheon is built on your device and nothing about it is transmitted or stored. The repeat word is a short label this page made or you typed, and it is the only thing that appears in the address; it is never measured.
