Picks a poetic form — its shape, metre and rhyme scheme — rather than a subject. The counterpart to the poem topic generator, and the more demanding of the two.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 10 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- Haiku — three lines, traditionally 5-7-5 syllables, often about nature or a single moment.
- Limerick — five lines with an AABBA rhyme scheme, usually comic in tone.
- Free verse — no fixed rhyme or metre; structure follows the poem's own natural rhythm.
- Villanelle — nineteen lines with two repeating refrains across five tercets and a final quatrain.
- Ode — a heartfelt, often celebratory poem addressed to a person, thing or idea.
- Cinquain — five lines with a fixed word or syllable count building to a single-word close.

- Look the form up before starting if it is unfamiliar; the rules are the exercise, and half-following them wastes it.
