How this generator works
A percentile is drawn from 1 to 99 and stated with what it means: the 70th percentile is the value below which seventy per cent of a distribution falls. The 0th and 100th are excluded because they are not percentiles anybody uses — every value is at or above the minimum, which makes the statement empty.
Limitations and good to know
- A percentile from this tool is a number, not a measurement. It describes nothing about any real population.
- A percentile is a position, not a score. The 90th percentile of one distribution and of another are not comparable quantities.
- Percentile and percentage are different things, and a percentile of 90 does not mean ninety per cent of anything.
- No distribution is attached, so the percentile has no value associated with it.
