How to print this, or save it as a PDF

There is no PDF to download, and there does not need to be. Open the print command in your browser and choose “Save as PDF” as the destination. The page addresses and dates a browser normally prints across the top and bottom are already kept off.
Set the scale to 100%, not “fit to page”. This sheet is already the exact size of the paper you chose, so anything that resizes it makes every measurement on it wrong.

What this generator does

Generates ratio questions with answers — simplifying a ratio, sharing a quantity, finding one share from the other, and working back from the difference between two shares. Ratio is worth drilling separately from fractions because the notation looks similar and the reasoning is not: 2:3 and two-thirds describe different relationships between the same two numbers.

How this generator works

The parts of the ratio are drawn first, then a total is built as a multiple of their sum so the shares divide exactly — the total is never drawn on its own and then hoped to work out. A simplifying question runs the reverse: a ratio is built already sharing a common factor, and the answer is confirmed by dividing both parts by their highest common factor and checking nothing further can be cancelled.

Randomness and fairness

A seed rebuilds the exact sheet of questions rather than a single result — the same word reproduces the same ratios, totals and order for as long as the generator is unchanged, which is what lets a sheet be reprinted or reused for a resit. Deterministic, not cryptographic.

Limitations and good to know

Shares always divide exactly. A real sharing problem that leaves a remainder is a different, harder question this sheet does not set.
Every ratio has two parts; a ratio with three or more terms is not produced.
Simplifying questions always start already reducible — a ratio already in lowest terms is never presented as one to simplify.
