Times Table Question Generator
Generate a random multiplication question up to your chosen times table — for a child self-testing at home or a class warming up before a maths lesson — with the answer hidden until you're ready to check it.
What this generator does
Produces a multiplication question with its answer, for times-table practice. The question and answer are generated together from the numbers drawn, so the answer is always correct for the question shown.
How to use this tool
- Set the highest times table to practise.
- Press new question for a random multiplication question.
- Reveal the answer when ready.
Understanding the controls
- Times tables up to
- The highest number either factor can be, from 2 to 20 (12 to start). Both numbers are drawn from 1 up to it; there is no setting that drills one table on its own.
Common use cases
- Times table practice at home or school
- Quick maths warm-ups
- Self-testing before a maths quiz
How this generator works
Both numbers in the question are drawn independently between 1 and the limit you set, not one fixed number against a varying second factor — so setting the limit to 12 practises the full 1 to 12 grid rather than only the 12-times table on its own. The answer shown is the multiplication of the two numbers actually drawn, worked out at the moment the question appears.
Limitations and good to know
- Setting the limit to 12 mixes all tables from 1 to 12 rather than drilling the 12-times table specifically — to focus on one table alone, ignore any question that doesn't include it and press new question again.
- There is no seed and no record of past questions, so the same pair of numbers can come up twice in a row.
