Randomness and fairness

The word and the two-digit suffix both come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, or both from a seeded draw — a seed that fixed the word and not the number would only half work. Seeded handles are deterministic, not cryptographic, so they suit repeatable test data and nothing that must be hard to guess. Neither mode checks whether a handle is already taken.

Practical tips

• Check availability on the service before settling — the reason to use a generator is to get past the names everyone has already taken.
• Avoid anything relying on capitals or punctuation to be readable; many services strip or lowercase both.
• Do not build a username from your real name and birth year. It is a small but real piece of personal information to hand over.
