Vegetable Picker Generator

Generates a random common vegetable suggestion — a quick way to decide on a side dish or add variety to your meal planning.

What this generator does

Draws one vegetable from a list of common, widely stocked vegetables. It is a decision tool, not a nutrition planner — it will not balance your week or tell you what goes with what. What it does well is interrupt the habit of buying the same four vegetables, which is the actual reason most people's cooking narrows over time.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 16 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Cauliflower
  • Bell pepper
  • Kale
  • Mushroom

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 16, without repeating until the list runs out. Common, widely-available vegetables (public/factual list). Last reviewed 2026-08-17.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a vegetable.
  2. Generate again for another one.

Common use cases

  • Meal-planning decisions
  • Grocery list variety
  • Classroom nutrition activities

Randomness and fairness

The draw is uniform across the list using the browser's cryptographic random number generator, with no weighting and no memory between draws. Nothing is excluded once drawn, so repeats are expected rather than a fault.

For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.

Limitations and good to know

  • It does not know what is in season, which for vegetables makes a large difference to both price and taste.
  • It has no idea what else is in your fridge, so two draws may not make a meal together.
  • Availability varies by country and by shop; the list leans towards what is stocked in British supermarkets.
