Charades Word Generator
Generate a random word or short phrase to act out for a game of charades.
What this generator does
Supplies words that can actually be acted out, which is a narrower requirement than it sounds — an abstract noun is unplayable in charades even though it is a perfectly good word. Distinct from the Pictionary generator, where the test is whether a word can be drawn.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 24 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- Brushing teeth
- Fishing
- Flying a kite
- Milking a cow
- Sword fighting
- Playing chess
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 24, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated word list for acting-out games. Last reviewed 2026-07-24.
How to use this tool
- Choose how many words you need.
- Generate to see your words.
Common use cases
- Charades game nights
- Classroom drama warm-ups
- Party icebreakers
Practical tips
- Show the word to the actor only, on the screen, rather than reading it aloud to the room.
- Agree a time limit before you start; a minute is standard and keeps the turn moving.
- Let the actor pass once per turn — an unactable word stalls the whole game otherwise.
Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
