Fictional Currency Generator

Generates an invented currency name for a fantasy or fictional setting — useful for tabletop RPGs or worldbuilding where 'gold pieces' feels too generic.

What this generator does

Draws an invented unit of money. A currency name carries more than flavour: it implies who mints it and therefore who is trusted, which is why a setting where two currencies circulate is telling the reader about a political situation without describing one.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 10 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • Silver-marked drakes
  • Sun-stamped crowns
  • Carved bone tokens
  • Iron marks
  • Gilded scale-coins
  • Star-etched sovereigns

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 10, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated invented-currency list. Last reviewed 2026-07-25.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a currency.
  2. Use it in your setting, or generate again.

Common use cases

  • Fantasy worldbuilding
  • Tabletop RPG economy design
  • Writing prompts for invented settings

Practical tips

  • Decide what one unit buys — a loaf, a night's lodging, a sword. Players understand a currency through one anchor price and never through an exchange rate.

Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
