Fractions Worksheet Generator

Fraction sheets are fiddly to write because the answers are fiddly: an answer left as 4/6 rather than 2/3 is the kind of thing that quietly teaches the wrong habit. Every answer here is given in its simplest form, and the checking enforces exactly that — an answer equal in value but not fully simplified is rejected as firmly as one that is simply wrong.

What this generator does

Produces a numbered sheet of fraction questions at the level you choose, with an answer key in which every fraction is reduced as far as it goes, and a line of working for each.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose what to practise — adding, multiplying, simplifying, comparing and so on.
  2. Choose a level, which sets how large the denominators get.
  3. Set the number of questions and the layout.
  4. Show the answers when you want the key, with a line of working for each.

Understanding the controls

What to practise
Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, simplifying, equivalent fractions, or comparing two fractions.
School year
One option per year, under all three names it goes by. It sets the level below to the range that age usually works with, and you can move it afterwards.
Level
Sets how large the denominators get, from sixths at the first level up to twenty-fifths at the sixth.
How many questions
One to a hundred. No question is set twice on the same sheet.
Columns
How many run side by side, from one to four.
Paper size and print size
A4, A5, A3, US Letter or Legal, portrait or landscape, with the margin in millimetres and a compact, standard or large-print setting. The sheet count updates as you change them.
Seed
Type a word to get the same sheet back another day.

Common use cases

  • Practice on one fraction operation at a time
  • Homework with a matching answer key
  • Revision before a test on fractions
  • Building up from small denominators to larger ones
  • The same sheet twice: one blank, one marked

How this generator works

Each question is read back from the page and evaluated in exact whole-number arithmetic, so no rounding is involved anywhere. Simplification questions are checked twice over: the answer must equal the original in value, and nothing above one may divide its top and bottom. Subtractions are arranged so the answer never goes below zero, and comparison questions never set two fractions that are actually equal.

Randomness and fairness

Which fractions appear is drawn using the browser's secure generator, within the denominators the level allows. A seed rebuilds the same sheet exactly — deterministic, not cryptographic, and meant for printing a sheet twice rather than for anything needing unpredictability.

For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.

Limitations and good to know

  • Proper fractions only in the questions; answers may come out above one where the arithmetic takes them there.
  • Mixed numbers are not used, so an answer appears as 7/4 rather than 1¾.
  • Decimals and percentages are covered elsewhere, not here.
  • The sheet copies as plain text rather than typeset fractions, so a stacked layout needs a word processor.
  • Nothing Fractions Worksheet Generator produces is kept once the page closes — the seed is the only way back to the same output.

Privacy and your data

Every fraction is generated in your browser. Nothing about the sheet you build is transmitted or stored.
