Group Colour Assignment Generator
Randomly splits a group into four named colour teams — Red, Blue, Green and Yellow — a ready-labelled alternative to the generic random team generator's plain 'Team 1/2/3/4' output.
What this generator does
Assigns a colour to each group or team, for sports days, classroom activities and anywhere teams need an identity that is quick to say and easy to see.
How to use this tool
- Enter participants, one per line.
- Press generate for a random colour-team split.
Understanding the controls
- Groups
- One group per line. Each receives a distinct colour, so two teams cannot end up wearing the same bibs.
Common use cases
- Sports day colour teams
- Classroom colour-group activities
- Event team colour assignment
How this generator works
Colours are assigned to groups from a palette chosen so that adjacent assignments stay distinguishable, including for the most common forms of colour vision deficiency — which rules out the red-and-green pairing that most default palettes reach for first.
Limitations and good to know
- Distinguishable is not the same as accessible. Colour should never be the only thing carrying the difference; add a label or a shape.
- The palette is finite, so beyond its size colours must repeat.
- Screen colours and printed colours differ enough that a set which separates cleanly on a monitor may not on a classroom printout.
