Returns a short, clean joke from a checked list — the sort you can tell to a mixed room without reading it first. Different from the pun and riddle generators, which each commit to one form; this draws across several.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 33 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

Understanding the controls

Seed

A seed brings back the same joke while the generator is unchanged, handy if you want to tell it to someone else exactly as you first read it. It's deterministic, not cryptographic.

Practical tips

• Read it silently before you say it out loud. A joke that reads well can still land badly in the room you are actually in.
• One joke lands; three in a row is a routine, and a routine needs timing the generator cannot supply.
