How this generator works
A problem is assembled from a scenario, a set of numbers and an operation, and the answer is computed from those numbers rather than stored beside them. Computing the answer is what keeps the pair honest: a problem whose stored answer drifted from its numbers is the worst possible worksheet, because the pupil who gets it right is told they are wrong.
Limitations and good to know
- Problems use small whole numbers and straightforward operations, aimed at primary-level practice rather than multi-step reasoning.
- The numbers are chosen to work out cleanly, which is not how quantities in the world behave.
- One operation per problem. Multi-step problems are a different skill and a different exercise.
- Scenarios are generic by design. A problem set in a context a class knows well will always be more engaging than one that is not.
