Narrative Perspective Generator

Generates a random narrative-perspective combination — point of view plus reliability or structure — as a writing-exercise constraint.

What this generator does

Draws a point of view paired with a degree of narrator reliability, which are two independent choices that get conflated. First person is not automatically unreliable and third person is not automatically trustworthy; combining them deliberately is what produces the interesting cases.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 10 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • First person, reliable narrator
  • First person, unreliable narrator
  • Third person limited, one point of view
  • Third person, multiple alternating viewpoints
  • First person, told entirely in retrospect
  • First person plural ('we')

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 10, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated list of standard narrative-perspective/reliability combinations. Last reviewed 2026-08-17.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a perspective.
  2. Write a short piece in it, or generate again for a different one.

Common use cases

  • Creative-writing exercises
  • Breaking out of a default POV habit
  • Writing workshop prompts

Practical tips

  • Rewrite one paragraph you have already drafted in the combination you drew. Perspective is much easier to judge on familiar material than on a new scene.

Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
