Partner Workout Generator
Generates a two-person workout structure — taking turns, mirroring, or working together — for training with a partner rather than solo, using little or no equipment.
What this generator does
Produces a session designed for two people, where one works while the other rests or assists. That structure changes the pacing entirely, which is why it is not just the circuit generator with two names.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 8 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- One partner does squats while the other holds a plank — swap when either needs a break.
- Partner sit-up and pass: sit up and pass a light object to your partner, alternating.
- One partner runs a short lap while the other does bodyweight reps, then swap.
- Partner wheelbarrow walk across a short distance, then swap roles.
- Back-to-back sit-stand: sit down and stand up together, linked at the elbows.
- One partner does an exercise for time while the other rests, then switch, five rounds.
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 8, without repeating until the list runs out. Original authoring for Generate Random — general two-person workout structures.. Last reviewed 2026-07-18.
How to use this tool
- Press generate for a workout.
- Try it with a partner, or generate again.
Worked examples
- A generated workout
- One partner does squats while the other holds a plank — swap when either needs a break — one of eight partner formats the list draws from.
Common use cases
- Workout-buddy sessions
- Couples or friend fitness activities
- Adding accountability to training
Limitations and good to know
- Assumes roughly comparable fitness between the two people; a large mismatch means one partner's rest is the other's hardest work, and the format doesn't adjust for that.
- Reps, sets and duration are mostly left open — one format names thirty seconds and one five rounds, and the rest name only the structure (take turns, mirror, work together), and how much to do at each turn is for the two of you to agree.
- A couple of formats need one partner to support or spot the other; check both people are comfortable with that role before starting.
Practical tips
- Agree the swap signal before starting so the rest periods stay honest.
- Pair people of broadly similar fitness, or scale the reps per person rather than making both do the same numbers.
Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.

Frequently asked questions
- What if my partner and I have very different fitness levels?
- Scale the individual's effort rather than the structure — the person doing the harder exercise can do fewer reps, or take the easier role, while keeping the same turn-taking format. The format itself works at any fitness level; only the dose inside it needs adjusting.
- How is this different from a family fitness challenge?
- This is built specifically for two people of similar-enough ability working as training partners. The family fitness generator is for a mixed-age group where an adult and a child are meant to take part together, which needs a much gentler, more scalable activity.
