Understanding the controls

Starting with: Narrows to chosen initials. The count underneath is a real count of this list rather than an estimate, so a letter with nothing behind it says so.
But not starting with: Excludes initials that are already spoken for.
At most this many letters: Letters only. This list runs shorter than the masculine and feminine ones, so a tight limit narrows it quickly.

Randomness and fairness

Draws come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator unless a seed is given, in which case the same word always produces the same names. This list is the shortest of the three, so a narrow filter plus a seed will reproduce a short list exactly — useful, and a reminder that a seeded draw is deterministic, not cryptographic.
