Understanding the controls

Starting with: Type one letter for names beginning with it, or several — "AJM" keeps every name starting with A, J or M. The count underneath says how many of the list survive, so you can see when a letter is running thin before you press generate.
But not starting with: The opposite, and the one people actually reach for: a household that already has a Jack usually wants everything except J.
At most this many letters: Counts letters only, so a hyphen or an apostrophe does not use one up. Useful when the name has to fit next to a long surname.

Randomness and fairness

Names come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator. A seed replaces that with a repeatable draw, so a cast list or a set of test records can be rebuilt exactly next week from the word alone. That repeatability is the point and the limit: seeding is deterministic, not cryptographic.

Practical tips
