Sentence Completion Generator
Generates a random fill-in-the-blank sentence with a clearly correct missing word, revealed on request — a grammar and vocabulary exercise, hand-authored for clarity.
What this generator does
Generates sentence stems for students to finish. A stem does more work than a blank page: it fixes the grammar and the tense so the student's attention goes to the content, which is the part being assessed.
What's in the question bank
This generator draws from 18 written questions, each stored with its answer. Every question is equally likely, and questions can repeat across separate draws — the tool does not track what it has already shown you.
- Complete the sentence: She opened the door and stepped ___ the room.
- into
- Complete the sentence: Neither of the twins ___ interested in football.
- is
- Complete the sentence: We ___ been waiting for over an hour.
- have
A fixed sample so this page stays the same between visits. The answer is drawn with the question and held until you choose to reveal it, so pressing Reveal never changes what the answer is.
How to use this tool
- Press new sentence for a fill-in-the-blank prompt.
- Reveal the answer when ready.
Common use cases
- Grammar practice at home or school
- Vocabulary and sentence-structure exercises
- Quick English warm-ups
Randomness and fairness
Stems are drawn uniformly with the browser's cryptographic random number generator, with no grading by age or difficulty — read a draw before setting it.
For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.
Practical tips
- Give the same stem to a whole class and read a few aloud; the range of completions is the discussion.
- For assessment, use several stems rather than one. A single stem tests whether the student had something to say about that stem.
