How this generator works
One format is picked whole from a fixed pool of eight, each bundled with the instructions needed to run it — "Sailboat — what's the wind pushing us forward, and what's the anchor holding us back?" Nothing is assembled from parts; the whole format, name and structure together, returns exactly as written.
Randomness and fairness
Formats are drawn uniformly with the browser's cryptographic random number generator, with no grading by how long they take or how large a team they suit.

Limitations and good to know
- Eight formats is a small pool for a team running weekly retrospectives — expect the same format to return within about two months.
- A format is a container, not a guarantee of a good discussion — a stale team dynamic will make any format feel flat, format included.
Practical tips
- Read the format before the retro and time-box each stage. Most retro formats overrun by default.
- Change the format when the retro gets quiet, not when it gets difficult.
- Whatever the format, finish with actions that have owners, or the discussion was the whole thing.
