Travel Photo Prompt Generator
Generates a random photo prompt for your next trip — a nudge to capture something more than the obvious landmark shot.
What this generator does
Draws a photographic prompt for a trip — something to look for that is not the view everybody photographs. The reason it helps is that the memorable pictures from a trip are almost never the landmark; they are the details you would not have looked at without a reason to.
What you'll get
This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 8 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:
- A photo of the view from the highest point you reach today.
- A photo of a local meal before you eat it.
- A photo of a street sign or shopfront in the local language.
- A photo taken from ground level, looking up.
- A photo of a stranger's dog (with permission).
- A photo of your accommodation's view, good or bad.
A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 8, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated travel photo-challenge prompts. Last reviewed 2026-08-17.

Randomness and fairness
Uniform across the prompt list using the browser's cryptographic random number generator. Prompts are not tailored to a destination, which is deliberate — the same prompt in two cities produces two completely different photographs.
For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.
Practical tips
- Draw one prompt per day rather than a list; a single constraint held all day works better than five ticked off.
- Photographing people needs their agreement, and in some countries and situations more than that. Ask.
- The prompt is a starting point — the good version is usually the third or fourth attempt at it.
