Dungeon Hazard Generator

Generates a random environmental hazard for a dungeon room — distinct from a deliberately-placed trap, more like a dangerous feature of the space itself.

What this generator does

Draws an environmental hazard — something dangerous that nobody put there, as distinct from a trap. The distinction matters at the table: a hazard cannot be disarmed and has no maker to outwit, so it rewards caution and preparation rather than a single roll.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 10 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • A floor section that silently gives way underfoot
  • A room slowly filling with water from an unseen source
  • A narrow ledge over a bottomless-seeming drop
  • A corridor filled with disorienting, echoing sound
  • A floor pattern that must be crossed in a specific order
  • A patch of loose rubble prone to sudden collapse

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 10, without repeating until the list runs out. Original authoring for Generate Random.. Last reviewed 2026-07-19.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a dungeon hazard.

Common use cases

  • Dungeon-design prep for game masters
  • Adding danger without a combat encounter
  • Quick session-filler content

Practical tips

  • Make it visible. A hazard the party can see and has to decide how to cross is a scene; one that surprises them is just damage.

Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
