Dungeon Feature Generator

Generate a random environmental detail — a small feature to add texture to a dungeon, ruin, or other explorable space.

What this generator does

Draws a room feature for a dungeon from banks covering different feature types, so a generated room mixes structure, hazard and detail rather than repeating one category.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 28 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • A collapsed ceiling has half-buried the passage ahead.
  • A door here has no handle on this side.
  • An old rope ladder hangs down from a hole in the ceiling.
  • The stairs down have been deliberately broken, from this side.
  • A chalk line runs along the floor and stops at a closed door.
  • Roots have forced their way through the ceiling, though this is far underground.

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 28, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated system-agnostic dungeon feature list. Last reviewed 2026-09-03.

How to use this tool

  1. Press generate for a new feature.
  2. Generate again any time for another one.

Common use cases

  • Adding texture to an otherwise empty room
  • Game master improvisation
  • Session prep for dungeon crawls

Limitations and good to know

  • Features are prompts for a games master to interpret, not balanced encounters. Nothing here accounts for party level or system rules.

Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
