Tabletop Weather Generator

Generate a random weather condition for travel scenes or outdoor encounters in a tabletop RPG session.

What this generator does

Rolls weather for a tabletop session from banks covering conditions of different severity, so results range from unremarkable to session-changing.

What you'll get

This generator draws from a hand-checked list of 26 entries. Here is a spread of 6 of them, so you can see the style before you generate:

  • Clear skies and still air.
  • Distant thunder, no rain yet.
  • Overcast and still, the kind of quiet before a storm.
  • Sleet, turning to rain by afternoon.
  • A hard frost that has not lifted all day.
  • A thaw, turning every path to mud.

A fixed sample of the list, not a live draw — your own results are picked at random from all 26, without repeating until the list runs out. Original HEKNO-curated weather condition list for tabletop play. Last reviewed 2026-09-03.

How this generator works

A run of days is generated with each day's conditions drawn from the previous day's rather than independently, so a warm spell stays warm for a few days instead of alternating with frost. Persistence is the single most important property of real weather data — tomorrow resembling today is a better forecast than the seasonal average — and a table drawn independently per day is instantly recognisable as fake.

Limitations and good to know

  • Conditions are drawn independently of season, region and what happened yesterday, so a run of results will not form a plausible weather pattern. Treat each roll as a fresh prompt.
  • Plausible-looking data for exercises and mock-ups. It is a pattern, not a forecast, and describes no real place or date.
  • Only day-to-day persistence is modelled. Real weather also has fronts, seasons and geography, none of which appear here.
  • The numbers are internally consistent — temperature, rainfall and wind agree with the stated conditions — but that consistency is imposed, not derived from meteorology.

Entries are chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry on the list is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
