Random Encounter Generator
Generate a quick encounter setup with a twist, ready to drop into a session when you need something on the fly.
What this generator does
Produces something to happen right now — the thing you reach for when a journey has gone quiet or the party has taken an unplanned turn. Deliberately smaller in scope than the quest generator, which sets up an arc rather than a scene.
What it builds, and how many ways
Each result is assembled to this shape: [setup] + [complication].
- setup: 25 options
- complication: 22 options
Taken together those banks can be assembled 550 different ways, repeating after about 29.
Some results it can produce:
- A merchant's cart has broken an axle on the road ahead. Helping costs a day, and a day is exactly what you do not have.
- A milestone has been turned to point the wrong way. The evidence has been arranged, carefully, for you to find.
- Three horses stand saddled and riderless at the verge. One of the travellers is not who they claim to be.
- A pedlar is selling something no pedlar should have. There are two versions of the story and both are told convincingly.
A fixed sample so this page stays the same between visits. Your own results are assembled at random, each slot filled independently and each press independent of the last, so the same result can come up twice — past the repeat figure above, seeing one twice is more likely than not.

Practical tips
- Not every encounter needs to be a fight. The most useful results are often the ones that give the party a decision instead.
- Roll before the session and have two ready, so the pause while you generate one does not break the scene.
Each part of the result is chosen independently with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every option in a bank is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
