Fantasy Quest Generator
Generate a quest hook — who needs help, what they need, and a twist — ready to build a session around or drop in on the fly.
What this generator does
Builds a quest premise by combining an objective, a complication and a stake, which is what makes it a usable hook rather than a one-line prompt. The encounter generator answers what happens in the next ten minutes; this answers what the party is doing for the next three sessions.
What it builds, and how many ways
Each result is assembled to this shape: [questgiver] + [objective] + [twist].
- objective: 6 options
- questgiver: 6 options
- twist: 5 options
Taken together those banks can be assembled 180 different ways, repeating after about 17.
Some results it can produce:
- The village elder needs someone to escort a caravan through dangerous territory, but success will cost the questgiver something they didn't expect to lose.
- A travelling scholar needs someone to track down a missing apprentice, but the real culprit is someone the questgiver trusts completely.
- The local blacksmith needs someone to deliver a sealed message across the border, but the item isn't what it was claimed to be.
- A retired adventurer needs someone to escort a caravan through dangerous territory, but helping means breaking a promise made to someone else.
A fixed sample so this page stays the same between visits. Your own results are assembled at random, each slot filled independently and each press independent of the last, so the same result can come up twice — past the repeat figure above, seeing one twice is more likely than not.

Practical tips
- Treat the result as the hook, not the plot. The complication is the part worth developing before play.
- If a quest does not fit your setting, keep the complication and change the objective — the complication is usually the interesting half.
Each part of the result is chosen independently with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every option in a bank is equally likely. How Generate Random works.
