Understanding the controls

Picture
Which drawing is cut in half. Every picture works on every fold, because the fold is made rather than found.
Where the fold goes
Down the middle, across the middle, or corner to corner. The diagonal is much the hardest, because the eye has no upright to measure from.
Measuring marks
Rules a row of ticks along the fold to sight the drawing from. Worth having at the easier levels.
Difficulty
How much detail is in the picture, and therefore how much of it has to be reflected.
Seed
A word gives back exactly the same half, on the same fold.

Randomness and fairness

The figure and where the fold falls are drawn from your browser’s secure generator unless you type a seed word. The reflection itself is never drawn at all — the answer half is the kept half turned over point for point, which is why folding the finished sheet brings the two halves together exactly. Typing the same word again returns the same figure on the same fold line; a different word moves both. A seed here makes a sheet repeatable rather than private, and the generator behind it is not cryptographic.

Limitations and good to know

  • What is being reflected is a geometric figure, not a detailed picture. That suits the task, but it does mean the finished drawing is a shape rather than an illustration.
  • The fold is always through the middle of the drawing area, on one of the three lines offered.
  • The pictures are line drawings. There is no shading to mirror, only the outline and its detail.

Frequently asked questions

Can these go into a workbook I am selling?
They can. The figures are geometry rather than pictures from a library, and no AI model has been near them, so there is nothing to license and nobody to credit. This is the same reason the folds can be exact: the shape is known rather than found. That holds without any caveat about what you put in, because you do not put a picture in. The figure is constructed, so there is no earlier owner for it to have had.
Does the diagonal fold work the same way?
Yes. The cut runs corner to corner and the answer is the printed half turned over that line. It is noticeably harder than the vertical one, because the eye has no upright to measure against.
How do I mark it?
Fold the finished sheet along the ruled line and hold it to the light. The two halves are the same points reflected, so they should sit on top of each other.
Why is one of my choices refused?
A few cuts leave a single stroke on the printed side, and one stroke is not enough to work a reflection out from. Those come back and ask for a different fold or a different picture.
