Percentages Worksheet Generator
The awkward part of setting percentage questions by hand is keeping the answers tidy: 15% of 70 is 10.5, which teaches nothing about percentages and a great deal about decimals. Every amount here is chosen so the percentage comes out exactly, which means each question tests the idea rather than the arithmetic of rounding.
What this generator does
Produces a numbered sheet of percentage questions where every amount is chosen so the answer comes out whole, together with an answer key and the method for each.
How to use this tool
- Choose the kind of percentage question.
- Choose a level, which widens the percentages used.
- Set how many questions and how many columns.
- Show the answers to get the key, with the method for each.
Understanding the controls
- What to practise
- Percentage of an amount, increase, decrease, one number as a percentage of another, finding the original amount, or converting a percentage to a fraction.
- School year
- Choose the year under whichever name you use; they are one option. The level below opens at the range that age normally works with.
- Level
- Widens the percentages used, from a handful of simple ones up to any whole percentage.
- How many questions
- One to a hundred. Conversion questions draw on a shorter fixed pool, so those sheets have a lower ceiling and say so.
- Columns
- Sets the across-the-page layout, one to four.
- Paper size and print size
- A4, A5, A3, US Letter or Legal, portrait or landscape, with the margin in millimetres and a compact, standard or large-print setting. The sheet count updates as you change them.
- Seed
- A word you choose brings this exact sheet back.
Common use cases
- Practice on percentages of amounts, or on increases and decreases
- Reverse percentage questions, which are the ones pupils find hardest
- Converting between percentages and fractions
- Homework with a matching answer key
- Revision before a test on percentages
How this generator works
Each question is worked out again from its own wording — the percentage and the amount are read straight out of the printed sentence and recombined. Conversions are held to two conditions rather than one: the fraction must equal the percentage in value, and it must not be reducible any further.
Randomness and fairness
Percentages and amounts are drawn using the browser's secure generator, with the amount always a multiple of whatever makes the answer whole. A seed rebuilds the same sheet exactly — that path is deterministic, not cryptographic, and exists so the same sheet can be printed twice.
For how randomness is produced across the whole site, see how Generate Random works.
Limitations and good to know
- Answers are always whole numbers, so questions that genuinely produce a decimal never appear.
- Compound percentage change over several periods is not covered.
- Amounts have no units, so there is no money formatting or rounding to the penny.
- The conversion questions go from percentage to fraction only, not the other way.
- Nothing Percentages Worksheet Generator produces is kept once the page closes — the seed is the only way back to the same output.
