Algebra Worksheet Generator
Checking an algebra answer is something pupils are taught to do by putting it back into the equation and seeing whether the two sides balance. That is exactly how this sheet's answer key is checked before you ever see it. For expanding and collecting, where there is no single value to substitute, both forms are tested at several values of x — which catches the classic near-miss that happens to be right at one value and wrong everywhere else.
What this generator does

Understanding the controls
- What to practise
- One-step equations, two-step equations with brackets, substituting a value, expanding a bracket, or collecting like terms.
- School year
- The three names for a year — Year, Grade and Class — are a single choice here. It opens the level at the usual range for that age; the level stays yours.
- Level
- Sets how large the coefficients and constants get, from numbers to six up to numbers to fifty.
- How many questions
- Anywhere from one to a hundred, and none of them repeats.
- Columns
- One to four columns; four suits short answers best.
- Paper size and print size
- A4, A5, A3, US Letter or Legal, portrait or landscape, with the margin in millimetres and a compact, standard or large-print setting. The sheet count updates as you change them.
- Seed
- The same word returns the same questions.

How this generator works
For an equation, the answer is put in place of x and both sides are evaluated in exact whole-number arithmetic; they must come out equal. For expanding and collecting there is nothing to solve, so the original expression and the given answer are both evaluated at five different values of x and must agree every time — an answer that matched at only one value would be caught.
Randomness and fairness
Coefficients and constants are drawn using the browser's secure generator, within the level's range. A seed rebuilds the same sheet exactly — deterministic, not cryptographic, and meant for printing a sheet twice.

Limitations and good to know
- Equations are built from a whole-number answer, so x is never a fraction.
- One unknown only: simultaneous equations, quadratics and inequalities are not covered here.
- Coefficients are positive, so questions never begin with a negative term.
- The sheet copies as plain text rather than typeset algebra.
- Nothing Algebra Worksheet Generator produces is kept once the page closes — the seed is the only way back to the same output.
