Some answers can be checked far more strongly than by working them out again, and it matters which check you use. A prime factorisation is right when the factors multiply back to the number and every factor is prime — checking only the product would accept 12 = 2 × 6. A highest common factor must divide both numbers and be the largest that does; checking only divisibility would accept any common factor at all. Every answer here is held to the whole definition.

Understanding the controls

What to practise
Prime factors, highest common factor, lowest common multiple, rounding, place value, powers, square roots or negative numbers.
School year
Year, Grade and Class are three names for one choice. Making it sets the level to the range usual at that age, which you can then move.
Level
Sets how large the numbers get, from forty at the first level up to twenty thousand at the sixth.
How many questions
One to a hundred, all different from each other.
Columns
From a single column to four, depending on how long the questions run.
Paper size and print size
A4, A5, A3, US Letter or Legal, portrait or landscape, with the margin in millimetres and a compact, standard or large-print setting. The sheet count updates as you change them.
Seed
Enter a word and the sheet can be printed again identically.

How this generator works

Each answer faces the check its own definition demands. Factorisations must both multiply back and consist only of primes. A highest common factor must divide both numbers, and every larger number is tried to confirm none of them does. A lowest common multiple must be divisible by both, and every smaller multiple is tried. Place-value questions never ask about a digit that appears twice in the number, since that question would have two right answers.

Randomness and fairness

Numbers are drawn using the browser's secure generator, within the level's range. A seed rebuilds the same sheet exactly — deterministic, not cryptographic, and meant for printing a sheet twice.

Limitations and good to know

  • Square roots are always whole, so questions never produce a decimal answer.
  • Powers go up to cubes only.
  • Prime factorisations are built from small primes, so a large prime never appears on its own.
  • Rounding is to tens, hundreds or thousands rather than to decimal places or significant figures.
